My Journey to support Your Mortgage Application

I've been qualified and giving mortgage advice to thousands since I qualified back in 2012. In my early years as a mortgage advisor I worked for NatWest bank, I had worked for the bank in other capacities since 2005 and prior to that was training to be an accountant!

My advising career at the NatWest in West Bridgford. I wasn't there for long at all though, following a tightening in the regulations I was the first advisor to pass the new requirements and that saw me move away from West Bridgford to work in the Nottingham Smiths branch due to the demand and footfall through that city centre branch.

Due to the lack of advisors at this time I would frequently cover Nottingham University, Queens Medical Centre, Beeston and Bingham branches to cover their appointments.

At the time I lived in Stapleford so I moved to cover that branch whilst working in the main at NatWest in Beeston, hoping this could become a longer term base for me due to an unsettled first 6 months advising. Again my tenure there became short lived, affected by the reduced opening hours that has become more and more common with banks today.

My final move was a return to a branch I'd worked as a Customer Advisor prior to qualifying to give mortgage advice. I would go on to spend 2 years at Derby St Peters Street and Derby City NatWest branches where I was became of the most active mortgage writers in the whole NatWest branch network. For my own development I eventually started working with high net worth and self employed clients.

Despite many great memories with the bank I moved away due to frustrations working with just one banks lending policies, simply put there were good mortgageable people in Nottingham and Derby who I just couldn't provide a solution for.

In 2015 I moved to work for Frank Innes estate agents as a mortgage broker in their Beeston office, compared to the high volumes of clients I had serviced before this was a great learning curve on ramping up my levels of customer care and service. I'd gone from writing 2 mortgages a day to 6-8 a month, providing a much better and more holsitic service to the people of Beeston.

I continued to work with Beeston branch regularly but my primary work location changed after a year to West Bridgford, a move largely because of my experience with the self employed and also due to my knowledge around the emerging limited company buy to let market - I stayed at West Bridgford for about 2 and a half years before moving just up the road to Edwalton.

I later worked in Nottingham City Centre but not before a brief period working for a mortgage broker in Bingham, my first non-corporate role.

In 2020 I set up TBMP and due to Covid quickly set up our Facebook information group 'Mortgage Advice in Nottingham' as a way to provide advice and demonstrate my knowledge as an advisor in my own right, due to a lack of accessibility to information at that time the group quickly grew to 1,000 members - many of whom went on to get in touch when they bought their home and remain customers to this day.

That initial success meant we were able to recruit 5 additional mortgage advisors to support the growth of TBMP, 4 of which were new to the mortgage broker industry and whilst my business is now down to just me delivering the personal service I always wanted to give all 5 of those ex advisors continue to work in the mortgage industry today.
